In an exclusive interview with WWD, McQueen said, “It’ll be like live theater — at home. The audience at home is actually going to see more than the guests at the show. We’re filming from a load of different angles, and two big cameras will actually be a part of the performance.”

No detail will be left unnoticed. Nick Knight’s SHOWStudio.com broadcasts original fashion films, shoots, and special projects online. This project will have robot cameras working on and off the catwalk as well as in the audience while an LED screen at the back of the runway will beam out the cameras’ images. The camera lens is the central metaphor of the show.

“Every year, buyers and the press come to see the spectacle of my show,” said McQueen. “But I want to generate something else, something for a wider audience — for people in Australia, Asia, and Middle America who don’t have a seat at the show. Really, what I’m aiming for is world domination!”

Not that Hermes officially has some sort of monopoly on making bags that are this shape, but the resemblance to their products is a lot closer than it is to, say, the Louis Vuitton Alma. Particularly when you add in the clochette and the horizontal exterior pocket, which mirrors the external seaming on the Bolide.

Normally I’m not a fan of bags that remind me so precisely of other bags, but I think I may actually like this version more than the original, the more that I look at it. The choice of the smooth, slouchy leather is spot-on for creating a bag with the everyday sort of elegance for which the Bolide strives, and turning the external seam into a pocket is totally functional. Plus it’s lined in leopard-print, and that’s the kind of secret kick of attitude that I like. Buy through Saks for $1595.

luis vuitton outletI’ve never been one for embroidery in any form or context – it almost always manages to look too cheap or too twee or too bohemian for me, and the fact that it almost always features floral motifs doesn’t help. I’m also historically not much of a fan of Fendi, despite the fact that I’ve championed several of their bags recently. Conflating the two, it would seem, would almost certainly produce a bag that I’d despise.

Except Fendi managed to make a bag featuring floral embroidery that I love – the Fendi Floral Baguette. It’s overpriced, made of straw, and half-covered in cutesy little flowers. It’s so loui vuittonnot me. Perhaps that’s why I like it – everyone needs a total departure from time to time.

I think that my affection for this bag is mostly a result of the interesting technique that Fendi used for the embroidery. Instead of lots of little threads combining to form the big picture, the individual petals are formed with a single wide swath of ribbon, sewn into the straw backing to form flowers. The effect is much more high-end and modern than traditional embroidery, and it allows the foliage to have a soft look that a more pedestrian technique would ruin.

The embroidery is hand-sewn, which partly explains the price, but I think it’s a little spend-y for a non-leather bag in such a small size. I would likely have no use for this particular little bag, but perhaps those attending more summer weddings and luncheons than I ever have will find a utilitarian purpose for it. Back in 2006, Prada made lots of waves among handbag aficionados with their ruched Gaufré handbags. Rendered in super-supple lambskin, the design was a great example of how texture can be achieved through clever design, even within the sometimes austere Prada aesthetic. Fashion Week Shoes: Alexander McQueen

Unless you weren’t already convinced of Alexander McQueen&#lv bags8216;s dark genius by the pictures of the clothing from his show, we submit to you: the shoes.

What we got from this collection (among other things) is perhaps the most ostentatious, progressive approach to footwear that we’ve ever seen from a major designer, at least in recent memory. The shoes were, on average, a full ten inches tall with huge platforms in the front to make them at least somewhat functional for walking. I pray for the models’ poor little ankles, but it was worth it to see these looks in their full form.

They came in three main varieties: first, ultra-high booties that looked more like prosthetic lobster claws than shoes you might see on the racks at Neiman Marcus, in keeping with the apocalyptic-aquatic theme of the show. These came in exotics, smooth leathers, and a variety of exterior embellishments, including shards of turquoise. The second type were booties that looked like something a resident in Wall-E‘s post-apocalyptic Earth might wear. The heels were covered in an amalgamation of industrial metal, creating perhaps the most wearable shoes of the collection. The third type were intricately carved porcelain platforms that were reminiscent of a coral reef, held on to the foot by clear plastic straps.

These are the shoes that a mermaid would wear, if a mermaid had feet. Luckily, the ones in McQueen’s show did.

The red-on-red beading on this clutch recalls (purposefully, I’m sure) artfully spattered blood (have I been watching too many Dexter reruns, or has McQueen?) and the signature skull clasp is the veritable cherry on top of this truly macabre clutch. We’ve featured several non-leather clutches in the past few days that have had price tags north of two grand, and commenters seem displeased at such prices for bags that aren’t made out of some kind of animal-derived material. Well! We certainly don’t want anyone to be displeased, so I present for your consideration the Pauric Sweeney Tullio Lizard Clutch.

The clutch may be simple, but its details are perfect, and that’s what counts in any design. The smooth, black patent of the small top flap provides and excellent foil for the nubby texture of the tan lizard below, and the gentle dip in the metal bar separating the two is a well-edited flourish.

5 Reasons Why Everyone Should Own a Balenciaga Bag

In the interest of full disclosure, it’s important for you all to know that I’m an unapologetic Balenciaga fangirl. I can’t be unbiased on the brand’s classic Motorcycle Bags because I love them too much – I’ve owned four myself, in three different shapes, which puts the brand at the top of my all-time ownership list (I like to spread the money around, usually).

As such, I feel as though I must vociferously make the case for the brand at any chance I get, and for anyone that has been considering one of Balenciaga’s bags as a future purchase, I have but one piece of advice: take the plunge. And also, I have a few reasons why…

loui vuitton outlet5. The colors! The colors! We’re talking about Balenciaga, after all. They make everything from blacks, browns, and beiges to the brightest (and best) brights in the business. Jewel tones, neons, anything you want. They’ve made it all, and they give us a half dozen or so new colors twice a year, every year. Sometimes they’re throwbacks to past favorites that are no longer available, but usually they’re a fresh crop of hues to build new outfits around. Everyone has their favorite – mine’s 2007 Violet.

4. A shape for everyone and everyone in their shape Balenciaga makes their classic motorcycle bag in almost as many sizes and shapes as they do colors. From coin purses to clutches to overnight bags, no matter what you need to carry and how you prefer to carry it, there’s something for you. Hobos and satchels make up most of the line, but even then, there are a variety of sizes to pick from.

3. Light as a feather, but not stiff as a board Even in the iterations that have giant hardware, Balenciaga bags are still the lightest that I’ve ever carried. The leather is cut thin instead of the clunky, thick material that many brands prefer, and it makes them easier to carry for long periods of time than most other bags. Even with the thin leather, I’ve never had a ripping or durability problem, and I carry my bags to death and do them no favors. For my purposes, they’re the perfect combination.

Even when they’re girly, they’re still edgy Balenciaga is the only brand that has legitimately forced me to contemplate spending money on a bag that’s neon green or bubblegum pink (and I hate pink), and that’s because that in any color, they still manage to look modern and a bit tough. But not too tough! They’re not entirely covered in studs or buckles, just a few, and it’s just enough to balance out any color choice (or to make something like black even better).

1. Not everyone owns one, and they never will I’ve heard people say that the motorcycle bags are played out, or that everyone has one, or whatever. It’s simply not true. The brand is harder to find both online and in stores than almost all of the other major brands that we cover, and the much-sought-after colors are made in relatively low numbers. Past favorites sell for over (sometimes well over) retail on eBay, and unless you live in one of the world’s most fashionable cities, it’s likely that you almost never come across another woman carrying one. I’d wager that the percentage of Americans that are even aware of their existence doesn’t come close to double digits. When you compare that to signature looks from other brands, they’re still relatively exclusive bags.

Still unconvinced? Fair enough, but maybe one day you’ll see that magic color that you feel like Balenciaga chose just for you, and things will all become clear. Trust me.

But that changes now and it is because I absolutely positively love the bag that is being launched. Ferragamo does FNO properly by giving us a fantastic bag to remember their event by.

To celebrate new Creative Director, Massimiliano Giornetti’s first womenswear collection, Salvatore Ferragamo is launching the lui vitonW Bag. The W bag is named for the House’s matriarch, Mrs. Wanda Ferragamo, and was originally designed in the seventies by her daughter Fiamma. louis v

Friday night at Ferragamo will focus on the signature W bag. Hosts will include Alek Wek, Ashley Wick, Elettra Wiedemann and Caroline Winbergalong. Also, Vogue editors Lauren Santo Domingo and Valerie Boster will be joining to celebrate the bag. A percentage of the evening’s sales will benefit the Whitney Museum of American Art.

The details above needed to be included, but I am back focusing on the bag itself. This bag is worth covering and I think that is easy to see. There is a very equestrian feel paired with ladylike lines. Being Ferragamo, I do not question the luxuriousness of the W Bag. I covet the W Bag. And when I heard guests at the event will be able to customize the W bag, I got green with envy (kind of like the color green in the W bag attached – beautiful, right?!).
